Give Improv the Respect it Deserves

In this workshop, we will work on honoring the reality of the scene while making big, playful choices. Improv is closer to theater than stand-up. Let’s give the stage the respect it deserves. This workshop is perfect for someone working on committing harder and playing full, real characters.

Sebastian is a NY-based comedian from Staten Island. Sebastian has appeared as a blue-collar worker on several TV shows. Check out his podcast Loud About Nothing.

In this workshop, we'll work on pushing past predictable ideas to surprise the audience, our scene partners, and ourselves! We'll also talk about the restraints we place on our own choices and how we can break out of those.

Shane can be seen on stage at UCB in ASSSSCAT, Rumpleteaser Musical Improv, and Harold Night with The Prophecy. He also performs at Caveat Theatre as a core cast member of Raaaatscraps. Besides training at UCB, he’s also a graduate of the Summer Evening Conservatory at Stella Adler Studios. Catch him acting in plays, readings, and short films all around NY.

Jaymie Parkkinen

Clown Cardio

Clown Cardio is a one-hour play class that runs physical theater games, clown, and slapstick at the pace of a high energy workout. Founded in 2023 and since featured in The New York Times and Monocle, it began as a reaction against the parts of improv and clown training that slow things down—the notes, the theory, the standing around. What's left is just the games, played hard enough to count as cardio. It lasts an hour because that's about all you can take. All fitness levels welcome. No experience required.

Jaymie Parkkinen is the founder of Clown Cardio. Based in Los Angeles, Jaymie has taught and performed comedy around the world, training in improv and clown across more than a decade and in more countries than is strictly reasonable. Catch Jaymie this festival in The Live Direct Show.
